Eyewear That Adapts With You

Wouldn’t it be convenient if your everyday glasses could respond automatically when you stepped outside?

At Elevate Eyecare Meadowbank, we believe your eyewear should complement the way you live. Transitions® lenses, also known as photochromic lenses, are designed to adapt to changing light conditions, remaining clear indoors and darkening when exposed to outdoor light.

For people who regularly move between indoor and outdoor environments, they can offer a convenient combination of clear prescription glasses, light protection and everyday comfort in one pair of lenses.

What Are Transitions® Lenses?

Transitions® lenses are light-adaptive lenses that automatically change their level of tint in response to light.

When you head outdoors, the lenses darken to help reduce brightness and provide protection from harmful UV rays. When you return indoors, they gradually fade back to clear.

This makes them a practical option for everyday wear, particularly if you find yourself constantly reaching for your sunglasses or switching between different pairs of glasses throughout the day.

Could Transitions® Lenses Suit Your Lifestyle?

Think about how often you move between indoors and outdoors during a typical day.

Perhaps you're walking the dog, gardening, hanging out the washing, commuting, enjoying lunch outside or working outdoors. If you're regularly taking your sunglasses on and off, or discovering you've left them somewhere when you need them, light-adaptive lenses can make everyday life a little simpler.

Transitions® lenses respond automatically as your environment changes, helping reduce the need to continually swap between clear glasses and sunglasses.

They can be particularly useful for people who value convenience, comfort and versatility from their everyday eyewear.

Why Choose Transitions® Lenses?

UV Protection: Transitions® lenses provide 100% UVA and UVB protection, helping protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet radiation whenever you're outdoors.

Everyday Convenience: One pair of glasses can adapt as you move between indoor and outdoor environments, reducing the need to constantly change between your regular glasses and sunglasses.

Visual Comfort: By responding to changing light levels, photochromic lenses can help reduce uncomfortable brightness and squinting, making changing environments more comfortable for your eyes.

Style & Versatility: Modern Transitions® lenses are available in a variety of colours, allowing you to choose a lens that complements your frames and personal style.

How Do Transitions® Lenses Work?

The technology behind photochromic lenses is surprisingly clever.

Transitions® lenses contain photochromic molecules that respond to light. When activated outdoors, these molecules change structure and cause the lenses to become darker. As you move away from the activating light, the process reverses and the lenses gradually return to clear.

Modern photochromic technology has continued to evolve, with newer generations designed to offer improved responsiveness, darkness outdoors and faster fade-back compared with earlier photochromic lenses.

It is worth remembering that performance can vary depending on temperature, UV exposure, lens type and the environment. Because standard vehicle windscreens filter much of the UV light that activates many photochromic lenses, some options may not darken as strongly inside a car. If driving performance is important to you, ask our team about the different lens technologies available.

More Than Just Grey

Photochromic lenses have come a long way from the traditional grey tint.

Depending on the Transitions® product and lens options available, you can choose from a variety of colours to complement your frames and personal style.

Popular options can include:

  • Grey – a classic, neutral tint that maintains natural colour perception.

  • Brown – a warmer tint that can enhance contrast.

  • Graphite Green – a sophisticated alternative with natural-looking colour.

  • Sapphire, Amber, Emerald and Amethyst – more distinctive options for those wanting their lenses to become part of their overall eyewear look.

Availability of colours and lens combinations can vary, so our team can take you through the options when selecting your new glasses.

Find the Right Lenses at Elevate Eyecare

There isn't one lens that's perfect for everyone. Your prescription, daily activities, sensitivity to light, driving habits and even your choice of frame can influence which lens will suit you best.

At Elevate Eyecare Meadowbank, we'll take the time to understand how you use your glasses and help you explore whether Transitions® or another photochromic lens option is right for you.

Because great eyewear shouldn't just help you see clearly, it should work effortlessly with the way you live.
