Thank you for choosing Elevate Eyecare. To help us make the most of your appointment, here are a few things to know before your visit.

Tell us about your vision

Let your optometrist know about any changes or concerns with your eyes or vision, including blurred vision, headaches, eye strain, redness, pain, flashes or floaters.

It’s also helpful to tell us about previous eye conditions, injuries or surgery, as well as any family history of eye disease.

What to bring:

  • Your current or previous glasses and contact lenses

  • Your Medicare card

  • Your private health fund card if claiming optical benefits

  • Your driver licence if attending for a NSW driving vision assessment

  • Any eye drops or eye medications you currently use

  • A list of relevant medications or medical information, if applicable

Your existing glasses are particularly useful as they allow us to compare your current prescription and understand what you are accustomed to wearing.

How long does an eye examination take?

Most comprehensive eye examinations take approximately 20–30 minutes, although additional testing may take longer.

If pupil dilation or more detailed eye-health testing is required, please allow up to 45–60 minutes for your appointment.

Dilated Eye Examinations

Sometimes your optometrist may recommend dilating your pupils to obtain a more thorough view of the retina and internal structures of your eyes.

Dilation may be recommended for diabetic eye examinations, flashes or floaters, high levels of short-sightedness, small pupils or when a more detailed retinal assessment is required.

Eye drops are used to temporarily enlarge the pupils and generally take around 20–30 minutes to take effect.

Your vision—particularly at near—may be blurred and your eyes may become more sensitive to light for several hours afterwards. We recommend bringing sunglasses and avoiding driving until your vision has returned to normal.

Please let your optometrist know about any allergies or previous reactions to eye drops.

Your eyes deserve more than a quick check

Regular eye examinations help us monitor changes in your vision and detect signs of eye disease as early as possible.

At Elevate Eyecare, we take the time to understand your eyes, your health and your lifestyle so we can provide care tailored to you.

Vision Beyond the Ordinary.
