Avulux Lenses: Helping Manage Migraine-Related Light Sensitivity
For many people living with migraine, sensitivity to light, also known as photophobia, can be a significant symptom and, for some people, a trigger.
At Elevate Eyecare, we offer Avulux lenses as a non-invasive optical option designed specifically to help manage migraine-related light sensitivity.
What Are Avulux Lenses?
Avulux lenses are specially engineered optical filters designed to selectively manage wavelengths of light associated with migraine and photophobia.
Unlike conventional sunglasses or standard tinted lenses, which generally reduce light across a broad range of wavelengths, Avulux lenses use specialised filtering technology to reduce certain wavelengths of blue, amber and red light while allowing more green light to pass through.
This selective approach is designed to provide comfortable light filtration without simply making everything appear darker.
If light sensitivity is affecting your comfort, work or everyday activities, speak with the team at Elevate Eyecare to determine whether Avulux lenses may be suitable for you.
How Do Avulux Lenses Work?
Avulux uses patented multi-band precision light-filtering technology. According to Avulux, its lenses are designed to:
Filter up to 97% of certain blue, amber and red wavelengths
Allow more than 70% of green light to pass through
Reduce light exposure associated with migraine-related photophobia
Maintain more natural colour perception compared with many traditional coloured or heavily tinted lenses
Research into migraine and photophobia has identified particular retinal pathways and wavelengths of light that may contribute to light sensitivity during migraine. Avulux lenses have been developed around this research, selectively filtering light rather than simply reducing overall brightness.

Designed for Everyday Comfort
Drug-Free Light Management
Avulux provides a non-pharmacological option for managing migraine-related light sensitivity. The lenses can be used on their own or alongside a migraine management plan recommended by your healthcare professionals.
More Natural Colour Perception
One of the advantages of selective light filtration is that the lenses are designed to maintain relatively natural colour perception.
Rather than heavily tinting everything you see, Avulux aims to balance light filtration with visual comfort, making the lenses suitable for a variety of everyday environments.
Indoors and Outdoors
Avulux lenses can be worn in a variety of situations where light sensitivity may become uncomfortable, including:
Working under bright indoor lighting
Using computers and digital devices
Shopping centres and supermarkets
Offices and classrooms
Travelling
Spending time outdoors
They may also be incorporated into your broader migraine management strategy alongside treatments recommended by your GP, neurologist or other healthcare professional.
Avulux vs Traditional Tinted Lenses
Traditional sunglasses primarily reduce the overall amount of visible light reaching the eyes. While this can be helpful outdoors, simply making the environment darker isn't always ideal for people experiencing migraine-related photophobia, particularly when glasses need to be worn indoors.
Avulux takes a different approach by selectively filtering particular wavelengths of light while allowing other wavelengths to pass through.
This means the lenses are designed specifically around light sensitivity associated with migraine, rather than functioning simply as a darker tint.
Could Avulux Lenses Be Right for You?
Everyone experiences migraine and light sensitivity differently. Avulux lenses may be worth considering if bright or artificial lighting makes you uncomfortable or if light sensitivity regularly interferes with work, study or everyday activities.
At Elevate Eyecare, we can discuss your visual needs, lifestyle and symptoms and help determine whether Avulux lenses are an appropriate option for you.

Avulux lenses are intended to assist with the management of light sensitivity associated with migraine and are not a cure for migraine. Migraine symptoms should be discussed with an appropriate healthcare professional, particularly if they are new, severe, changing or persistent.
